Why a Minneapolis Wheat Quote May Be Missing in Bloomberg

A blank chart is a data-quality problem to diagnose, not permission to fill the hole with another wheat market.

A blank chart is a data-quality problem to diagnose, not permission to fill the hole with another wheat market. This guide keeps the exchange, dated legs and historical-data boundary visible so the quoted relationship can be checked.

STRUCTURE / CHECKNo matched date for both legs → no spread observation.

Start with the exact security

Check whether the terminal resolves the input to the intended Minneapolis futures security and whether the long title, venue, delivery month and year agree. Then check the requested price field and dates. A valid security can have no observations for a selected window; a live futures contract is not guaranteed to have observations in every vendor feed or field.

CME’s 2025 notice ended MGEX routing and market data on CME Globex, while MIAX continued the Minneapolis product on Onyx. MIAX’s vendor list names MWE for BBG after the migration. This provides a concrete mapping to investigate, but it does not prove that a particular Bloomberg account has a complete historical series for every 2026 and 2027 month.

Three different missing-data cases

A column absent from an Excel workbook means it was not supplied. A contract present with observations only through 2025 has historical but stale data. A terminal chart with “no available data” for March–September 2026 shows no observations for that field and range on that screen. These situations have different remedies, and none justifies making a current quote from an old one.

Check MIAX’s published product specification and current data access, and compare a vendor download with at least several overlapping exchange or trusted observations. Record the security identifier and timestamp of each verified match. Keep the 2025 source intact while testing a new provider.

Protect the output

A two-leg spread requires prices for both legs on the same date. If either leg is missing, the spread for that date is unavailable. If a 2026 Minneapolis price cannot be verified, historical seasons may still be shown, clearly labeled, but current spread, current P&L and live ranking must remain unavailable.

The data gap also affects a mixed wheat spread: pairing a Minneapolis price from October 2025 with a Kansas City price from September 2026 is not a valid market observation. A year label on the contract does not make two quotes contemporaneous.

Educational historical research, not investment advice. Futures and multi-leg spreads involve substantial loss, execution and delivery risk. Historical results do not guarantee future outcomes. Imported Minneapolis prices stop on 24 October 2025; current quotes and margin must be verified independently.
